Congratulations to the St. Louis Slam on their win this past weekend in New Orleans.  They defeated the West Michigan Mayhem in the 2009 WFA National Championship 21-14.  For more information, visit the WFA League website for the full story.

The Blues arrived in St. Louis from an early morning flight, got settled in and began to prepare for the American Conference game. The senses were quiet, but calm and settled.  Most of the conversations were game strategy.  As the team arrived at Oakville High School, the senses hightened.

In front of a large crowd, the second round of playoffs began.  The St. Louis Slam came out of the blocks and put up 12 points in the first quarter.  Jacksonville answered in the second quarter as QB Brantley Mack passed to Kim 'Rocky' Brown for a 20 yd run for a touchdown.  For the remainder of the 2nd quarter, both teams traded scores, showing a lot of talent. As Mack passed one to WR Michelle Robinson for a 29 yards for a touchdown, so did Slam, with a 1 yard punch in for six and a 2-point conversion.  At the half, the score was 26-13.

The Blues came back at the half putting up another touchdown, closing the Slam's lead to only six points.  But that only lasted for a moment as the Slam again scored, putting the lead back up by fourteen.  As both teams reached the fourth quarter, they knew that it was going to come down to only a few points.  And that it did, The Blues attempted an onside kick with 5 minutes left in the game, to try to gain some edge.  The kick was perfect, but the Slam recovered it.  They marched down the field, eating up time and running the clock to a final score of 40-32.

The Blues are eager to take a rest and begin the off-season, but will be taking this game with them into the 2010 season.  They believe this will only make them stronger and ready for playoffs next year.

Your still undefeated Jacksonville Dixie Blues will be travelling to Missouri to take on the St. Louis Slam.  Both teams will meet to determine who will not only claim title as the WFA American Conference winners, but will be heading to New Orleans to play in the National Championship.

In the quest for the national title, the Blues are raising funds for travel to St. Louis, and by the grace of the football gods, beyond.  If you are interested in helping Jacksonville's premier women's football team, please check our contact page for information.

We would like to thank everyone that has helped the Dixie Blues this season.  We wouldn't be successful without you!

7/12/09-The first round of playoffs began like any regular season game.  Both teams arrive, pregame warm-up, national anthem, fans cheering, and then kickoff.  The only difference is that the winner of this game advances to the American Conference title game.  Both teams were powerhouses in their region and eager to conquer and advance.  The energy was high on both sidelines.  Both teams prepared for two weeks for this moment.

The Dixie Blues won the toss.  And in just two plays took a long run for a touchdown. That began the scoring frenzy by the Blues.  Austin Outlaws, known as the Dark Defense, could not stop the run, the pass, or anything Jacksonville put in front of them. By the end of the first quarter, the Blues had put up 21 points.   The defense was relentless stopping Austin at every turn allowing no score in the entire first half.

As both teams approached the field at the second half, it was obvious that the Blues were just as fresh as they were at the beginning of the game.  They came out re-energized and ready to take on the Outlaws.  And that they did.  QB Brantley Mack connected with a several passes to Farrah Faucette(I sware).  Kim Brown punched up and down the field, and Isis Lay burned a streak down the turf.  With the powerful help of DE Kristann Bell, the defense wore down the Outlaws.  With two interceptions from DB Erin Hopper and LB Melissa Schoolcraft, the Blues were quickly on their way to yet another win.  Austin was able to put up 2 touchdowns in the second half, but it was not enough to catch Jacksonville.  The final was score was 55-14.  Jacksonville advances to the second round of playoffs against St. Louis Slam.

07/10/09-The Dixie Blues host the Austin Outlaws this Saturday night July 11 at The Bolles School.  Both teams come in as division winners Austin 7-1, Blues 8-0.  Austin has proven their domination in the Southwest Division with at big defensive front.  The Dixie Blues have worked hard for the past two weeks studying and getting ready for some Texas football.

Coach Don Braddock readied the team last night in their last practice before Saturday nights game.  "Girls, we have worked hard to get where we are.  There are only eight teams left in the country.  We are shaking up the milk bottle, and letting the cream rise to the top," says Braddock.  "We haven't peaked yet. We are only getting better."  The energy on the practice field was intense.  Concentration is stronger and the burning desire to succeed was obvious.

06/30/09-In a effort to be the best in the WFA, you must work harder, play smarter and most importantly, be a team.  Saturday night that is what the Dixie Blues did.  Both teams had a lot at stake.  Region III champs would prevail at the end of this game. In order for either team to advance to the playoffs, a win was necessary.  The Blues were coming into the game undefeated, and the Riptide only had one loss, to the Blues, earlier in the season. The Riptide came prepared to break the streak.  The Blues came to defend their turf.  At kickoff Gulf Coast gained first posession.  They immediately began to move the ball.  With a handoff to their leading rusher #40 Lakeisha Johnson, they started to burn up yardage.   The Dixie Blues defense quickly jammed up their rush and forced a punt.  At first posession WFA top ranked QB #33 Brantley Mack launched a 43-yard pass into the hands of reciever #8 Isis Lay on the run and into the endzone  The first score was on the board.  Gulf Coast answer by driving down the field and scoring as well.  It was apparent that the Riptide would use the run most of the night to move the ball.  The Blues defenses' approach was to stop it.  And that they did with over 100 tackles, with the help of #2 Kim 'Rocky' Brown for 20% of them.

The Blues offense proved to be calm under pressure putting up 25 of 37 points, and the defense  continued to pressure the Riptide only allowing 14 points for the night.  This was probably the most exciting game of the regular season.  Two of the WFA American Conference Southeast powerhouses driving to be on top, but only one would prevail, Jacksonville Dixie Blues 37-Gulf Coast Riptide 14.

The Blues advance to the first round of playoff with home field advantage on July 11 taking on the Austin Outlaws.  Come out for even more exciting football and support a new era in women's football!

6/21/09-The Blues made the long trip to Memphis, TN on Friday night. The 13 hour trip proved to be nothing more than a short trip around the corner.  The Blues arrived at NSA Mid-South Varsity Field in Millington, TN ready to take on a more seasoned Memphis Belles team.  Kickoff started at 5:00p with a heat index of 105'. That heat fueled the fire for the Blues. They began to move the ball and started to run ablaze up and down the field.  This game proved to be the toughest defense the Dixie Blues have put on the field.  The Jacksonville defense shut out the Belles in the first half.  They fought hard in the red zone preventing Memphis from scoring from the 2 yard-line.  The Belles began to warm up the second half, showing their ability to put pressure on the Dixie Blues offense.  They allowed only one touchdown the second half, but wasn't enough to stop the undefeated Blues from putting yet another mark on the win side!  Jacksonville 34-Memphis 6.

We would like to thank Memphis Belles for their generosity on and off the field.  They certainly portray great sportsmanship on the field, and generous hospitality off the field.  It's great to be able to share off the field what we fight for on the field, success in women's football.  Thank you Zak and company!

6/19/09-The 6-0 Blues are heading up to Millington, TN to take on the 4-3 Memphis Belles.  The Blues are eager to continue their streak, and have prepared for a great match up.  The Belles have had a  good season and continue to strengthen.    They will be playing at 5:00p NSA Mid-South Varsity Field Hornet Ave. Millington, TN 38053.  Check out the WFA website for scores and updates after the game.

06/14/09-As luck would have it, a last minute Florida thunderstorm rolled in Saturday evening, prior to game start.  After a 40-minute rain delay, the Blues and the Blaze took the field.  The first quarter started out slow as both teams traded posessions for half of the first quarter. Once the clouds separated, the Blues brought there own thunder.  They began to show their talents with tremendous running by #2 Kim 'Rocky' Brown, #33 QB Brantley Mack's cannon, hitting #88 Farrah Faucette on the run across the field, and a laser to #8 Isis Lay.  The rookies showed some amazing veteran abilities with #4 FB Erin Hopper delivering 4 hard blocks on one play, allowing Brown a 48-yd touchdown run. With help from our rookie kicker, #73 Vanessa Phillips-Bosehart, 100% accuracy added 6 PAT's to the score. The Dixie Blues defense was relentless stopping the run, causing negative yardage, and keeping the Blaze at bay.  The New Orleans defense didn't show any signs of weekness as they punched through for four sacks.  'They made us work hard for every yard, and didn't show any signs of backing down,' says QB Brantley Mack.  The Blues held the Blaze from scoring, and ended with 42-0 score.  The ladies head to Memphis on June 19  to take on the 4-3 Belles.

06/03/09-The New Orleans Blaze meet the Dixie Blues in Jacksonville this weekend.  The Cresent City sends there women's team here to take on the WFA Region III leaders at Bolles School at 7:00p on Saturday, June 13.  Come cheer on the Blues.  Lets make this the biggest crowd yet!  Tell everyone!

05/01/09-After two weeks off, the Dixie Blues prepared for the toughest game of the regular season.  They were up against the undefeated 4-0 Gulf Coast Riptide, from Pensacola.   The game proved to be a fight to the end.

The Blues began with a touchdown from #2 Kim ‘Rocky’ Brown on the very first play of the game.  That set the tone for the entire first half, as they put 34 points on the scoreboard. But, it was obvious from the start that the Blues had to stop the run.  In order to do that they had to stop the Riptides’ lead running back, #40 Lakiesha Johnson from pounding the ball down the field.  They didn’t expect to see #23 Michelle Robinson become a laser and put pressure on her as well as the quarterback.  The defense stepped up, stuffing the run, stopping them in the backfield, and holding them to 12 points at the half.

The second half proved to be a task, as the Riptide began to score.  They recovered a fumble, and began to get some momentum.  The Riptide scored twice again, closing in on the lead.  But the Dixie Blues reached deep down.  There was no way they would allow the Riptide offense to take this too far.  So, quarterback #33 Brantley Mack decided to take advantage of wide open tight-end #88 Farrah Faucette and threw a bomb, as Faucette took it into the end zone.   Gulf Coast answered with yet another touchdown.  After another turnover by the Blues, Riptide got the ball yet again. The defense was relentless with pressure in the backfield allowing #8 Isis Lay to strip the ball and run it back for a touchdown.  That was enough to secure a win.  The final score:  49-36.

The Blues increase their record to 4-0.  They take on the Emerald Coast Barracudas from Panama City this Saturday night at home.
